After School Activities (Tanoda)
The tanoda is not operated by governmental organizations, and is based on the local peculiarities, the voluntary participation of children and young people, and on individual needs. It is a community scene with independent infrastructure. The tanoda gives a complex service which is looking after the whole scale of personal development, which is not well-approved in the educational system, and not accessible for children and young people coming from marginalized communities.” (TanodaPlatform)
We were participating in the creation of the quote above, since we are members of the TanodaPlatform which is a fellowship of the other after school activities programs. We wholeheartedly identify with this quote as it specifies our operation and activities. Online studying and other modern forms of distance-learning have crucial importance in our work.
For now the Tanoda has a leader, and he is working with teachers, and with a speech therapist. The Tanoda is open from Wednesday until Saturday;during the weekdays and afternoon we work in private sessions with students and adults who are in continuing educational programs. Moreover we use this time to prepare for other classes and plan ahead. Between 2:30 and 7:30, we welcome the children, who are visiting us after school. Some of them need support in their transport, so we help with this as well, while others children are assisted by their parents. On Saturdays, we are open from 9 am until 4 pm. On Fridays from 12:30 we work with children from kindergarten, through a program to help them prepare for elementary school. On Thursday evening and on Saturday late afternoons we engage in projects in accordance with the after school activities.
Last but not least, we organize camps that last several days 5-6 times a year for our students during the breaks in Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer, where they can enjoy more than just classroom learning.
